Gujarat creates history, lifts maiden Ranji Trophy title; Parthiv Patel hits ton

Gujarat skipper Parthiv Patel led from the front and scored 143 off 196 in the second innings.

And finally, Gujarat creates history after beating Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy finals by 5 wickets and winning the title for the very first time at the Holkar Stadium in Indore on January 14.

Gujarat skipper Parthiv Patel led from the front and scored 143 off 196 in the second innings. Parthiv batted almost the entire day and scored his ton while chasing a target of 312 runs.

Resuming the game at 47/0 on the final day, Gujrat created history half an hour prior to the end of the final session. This was the highest total run-chase in a Ranji Trophy finals. Earlier, the highest was 310 by Hyderabad vs Nawanagar way back in 1937-38.

After this victory, Gujrat has joined the club with Holkar, Delhi, Karnataka and Haryana as the teams to defeat Bombay/Mumbai in a Ranji Trophy final. Mumbai has won the tournament 41 times, more than any other team.

In the post-match presentation, Gujarat skipper Parthiv Patel said,”It was a collective dream that we saw before the season. It was a dream which started in Gujarat and it has come true. I was taking my chances, I am glad it all came off. You can’t get 311 alone and Manpreet played brilliantly. Priyank Panchal got a crucial 30 yesterday to give us the momentum.”

Parthiv bagged the Man of the Match Award as well.

And here comes the winning moment:

The winners lift the trophy for the first time in the history of Ranji Trophy tournaments.

After Gujrat won the match, people across the nation and from the cricket fraternity wished the little champ from Gujrat for the victory and his ton which led the team to write a new chapter in the record books.
