Ahead of the eleventh edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Bollywood star Arjun Kapoor has expressed his wish to associate with the cash-rich tournament. Arjun, who already co-owns the FC Pune City football team in the Indian Super League, is now keen to be a part of the gentlemen’s game. He stated that he would love to be a part only if he can contribute and not just because it was cool to own a team.
In a telephonic conversation with the news agency, IANS, Arjun was asked if he would like to co-own a cricket team too. He said,
The Indian Premier League (IPL) is really flying at a level where everything is pretty self-sufficient now but never say never. I have a keen interest in cricket also.
“I would love to be a part of something where I contribute and not just because it’s in fashion. You need to feel a connect,” he added.
Over the last 10 years, several Bollywood stars have bought IPL teams. Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan co-owns Kolkata Knight Riders along with Juhi Chawla, Preity Zinta owns the Kings XI Punjab and Shilpa Shetty owns the Rajasthan Royals. All these teams have won the IPL title at least once.
In 2015, Shilpa’s team was banned for two years due to corruption charges. However, the team is going to make a comeback along with Chennai Super Kings
