Quite often, fans of the Indian cricket team say that MS Dhoni is the real captain despite having stepped down from the captaincy back in 2017. Seems like, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) think the same as well. According to BCCI’s official website, Dhoni still shows as the captain of Team India when you click on his profile.
When you click on the ‘About’ section on the website’s homepage and navigate to ‘Team India Men’, it shows that Dhoni still in Grade ‘A’ which is correct but it also shows him alongside Indian skipper Virat Kohli and other players who have been included in Grade A+ contract in 2018. It seems like the website has not been updated for a long time.

Dhoni quit Test cricket in 2014. He stepped down from ODI and T20I captaincy in January 2017. Dhoni now has a contract of Rs 5 crore per year whereas Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah earn Rs 7 crore under Grade ‘A+’ contract.
After India’s loss in the third ODI against England, talks of Dhoni’s retirement have become prevalent again. Apparently, the 37-year-old took the match ball from the umpire while walking towards the dressing room, which was misinterpreted by fans. India’s head coach Ravi Shastri ‘rubbished’ all the talks of retirement.
