After Steven Smith's Devastated Press Conference, Virat Kohli Urges Officials To Let Him Play In IPL 2018

Steven Smith would have thought that he had a 'brainfade' moment again when he saw his phone buzzing and Virat Kohli calling him for a video chat

Steven Smith got emotional during the press conference in Australia while accepting the 12-month ban from Cricket Australia (CA) for the ball-tampering ‘sandpapergate’. In the devastating press conference, Smith struggled to hold back his tears all along and eventually cried when asked to give an answer to the Australia kids who consider him as a role model. His father who was by his side throughout the press conference consoled him.

Smith’s emotional press conference moved everyone including the cricket fraternity as cricketers supported him in this tough time. Indian skipper Virat Kohli who is considered as his fierce opponent was moved after watching him cry uncontrollably and decided to take a big step.

Kohli knew that he could not do much about the 12-month ban that CA has imposed but he tried doing what he can. Smith has had monetary losses too as sponsors backed out followed by not being allowed to play Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018 after getting sacked as the captain. This was a major blow for Smith as he was retained for a whopping sum of Rs 12 crore.

Kohli let go of the ‘brainfade’ incident that happened in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in 2017 and decided to call the IPL top boss and urged him to include Smith back into the squad. According to reports, Kohli also video chatted with Smith and got emotional. The video chat is being talked about as a reason behind the Indian skipper’s compassion towards Smith.

P.S. The above article is a pure work of fiction. Kohli did not call Smith as far as we know and did not do any of the above things. However, like many, we too are compassionate towards Smith after watching the press conference.
