Kane Williamson Named Captain Of Sunrisers Hyderabad

Kane Williamson is set to don SRH captain's hat in the 11th season of IPL

New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson has been named as the captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018. Williamson will be replacing David Warner who has been banned by Cricket Australia (CA) for 12 months and also not allowed to play in IPL 2018 by Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI).

Williamson is the sixth captain of SRH. Kumar Sangakkara (2013), Cameron White (2013), Shikhar Dhawan (2013-14), Darren Sammy (2014), Warner (2015-17) were the previous five captains of the SRH side. Warner has been the most consistent captain of the side so far as he has led the side in 45 matches with a win percentage of 57.77.

Williamson will be leading SRH for the first time. He was a consistent performer in the previous season with 256 runs from 7 matches at an average of 31.61 with the help of three half-centuries. This will be Williamson’s fourth season. Till now, he has played just 15 matches.

Other contenders for the captaincy role were Dhawan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Wriddhiman Saha. SRH will be playing their first match against Rajasthan Royals on April 9.
