While Kashmir burned, norms were flouted to get Hurriyat chief Geelani's grandson a government job

There were around 140 applications but nobody except a few favourable ones were called, says an applicant

The killing of Hizbul militant Burhan Wani saw a huge unrest in Kashmir for a period of six months resulting in death of nearly 100 civilians. The protests were called on by separatist leaders like Hurriyat chief Syed Ali Shah Geelani. However, it has emerged while protesters in Kashmir died , Geelani’s grandson got himself a lucrative job in Jammu and Kashmir government run by BJP-PDP combine.

Geelani’s grandson  Anees-ul-Islam was appointed as research officer at Sher-e-Kashmir international convection complex (SKICC), a subsidiary of state tourism department flouting recruitment norms. Moreover, the job offers an annual package of Rs 12 lakh. Times of India reported citing its sources.

The report also said that the tourism department did not refer the post to recruiting agencies like J&K State Subordinate Services Recruitment Board or Public Service Commission, mandatory for the selection process.

However, tourism secretary Farooq Shah denied the allegations and said Anees was selected after following due procedures. “We invited applications from candidates; he was found fit for the post.” Anees has not been paid his compensation for want of a CID verification.

One of the candidates who applied for the post said ,”My application was accepted by the SKICC in October 2016; but, I was never called for an interview.”

There were around 140 applications but nobody except a few favourable ones were called, he added.

Not only this, One of Geelani’s son Naeem was earlier employed in government health services department. Naeem’s elder daughter appeared for school exams in October 2016 despite a boycott call given by Geelani against attending schools. One of Geelani’s grand daughters also works as a crew member in an airlines.
