TMC MP Tapas Paul arrested by CBI in connection with chit fund scam

Pal was summoned by the investigative body in connection with the Rose Valley chit fund scam case.

Bengali film actor and Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Tapas Paul has been arrested by the the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) after he reached the CBI office in North 24 Parganas on December 30.

Previously this week, another TMC MP, Sudip Bandyopadhyay, along with Tapas Paul was summoned by the CBI in connections with the Rose Valley chit fund scam case.

They summoned legislators were directed to present themseleve before the CBI team on December 30.

Earlier this year, a charge sheet had been filed by the CBI against Rose Valley chairman Gautam Kundu and three other accused.
The firm was charged with defrauding depositors from across the country of Rs 17,000 crore, out of which Rs 450 crore was received by the ponzi firm from Odisha alone.

In the year 2014, the actor turned politician Tapas Paul had heated up several controversies after he was caught in camera threatening Communist Party Of India (Marxist) workers to kill them and have their women raped if any of his party workers ere attacked.

He said,”If any TMC’s opponent touches any Trinamool girl, any father, any child, I will ruin his whole family. Aamar chheleder dhukiye debo, rape kore chole jaabe, rape kore chole jaabe (I will let my boys rush towards you, they will rape them, rape them).

Later to this episode, Paul’s wife Nadini Paul apologised for what her husband spoke and said Tapas should not had used the term.

Tapas Paul is a popular actor in Bengali films and has also won the Filmfare award for his work in Saheb. He had also worked with Madhuri Dixit in her debut film ‘Abodh’ in 1986.
