This Program Turns People Into Virtual Fake Dancers

Time to flaunt those fouette turns then!

If you are one of those who just can not dance, here is some good news. Four good fellas from the University of California in Berkeley have put together a system that can read your dance moves and turn you into a ‘deep fake’ dancer.

Caroline Chan, Shiry Ginosar, Tinghui Zhou and Alexei A Efros have used Artificial Intelligence program to read the dancer’s dance style and simply copy to another dance form. Caroline, one of the researchers, has posted a video about the project (which is work in progress) explaining how it will work.

Here’s the video:

According to their research, the program which is called ‘Everybody Dance Now’ is about transferring motion between human subjects in different videos.

“Given a video of a source person and another of a target person, our goal is to generate a new video of the target person enacting the same motions as the source. To accomplish this task, we divide our pipeline into three stages – pose detection, global pose normalization, and mapping from normalized pose stick figures to the target
subject.”

The idea is to ‘create a variety of videos, enabling untrained amateurs to spin and twirl like ballerinas, perform martial arts kicks or dance as vibrantly as pop stars’.
