If you love listening to music, you’ve probably spent a decent amount of time scouring through YouTube videos. Chances are, you have by now come across numerous popular cover songs, which by definition is someone else’s composition sung by another singer while recreating or reworking the original. Think it’s basically no big deal to record a song that’s already popular? You’ve got another think coming because vloggers truly do put in a lot of hard work to produce a cover track.

From selecting a song to making sure the essence of the song remains intact, there is a lot of effort that goes on behind the scenes. We spoke to two artists, Prassenjit Lahiri and Simi Bedi from Mausiqi Studios, who revealed the secret behind making a cover song. Prassenjit is a vocalist and guitarist and excels in genres like Indian semi-classical and ghazals, while Simi Bedi is a Punjabi folk and Bollywood singer.
