The first big fashion event of the year started off with a bang in Mumbai. Lakme Fashion Week Summer Resort 2017 is undeniably one of the most loved galas in the country and brings in a vast array of designers showcasing their latest collections on the runway.
The star-studded event also witnesses a footfall of superstars from Bollywood who grace the front row as well as the ramp for celebrity designers. Day 1 of LFW wasn’t any different. Young guns of B-town like Varun Dhawan, Arjun Kapoor, and Sonakshi Sinha already made an appearance on day one and many other big names are expected to be seen as the event goes by.
Urvashi Kaur’s collection Vaasa was ever elegant with both menswear and womenswear ensembles in earthy pinks, fawn, indigos, and olive shades. It stands out for its distinctive detailing with shibori and leheriya dyeing techniques used in the garments.
The colour palette in Ka Sha’s show made the summer come alive on the ramp. Whites accented with yellow, blue and green in tie and dye. Soft free flowing silhouettes were juxtaposed with structured jackets with tassles and ruffles adding a touch of romance.
Just a few years into the industry, Anuj Bhutani’s menswear line kept the sustainable fashion element in gear. He used natural fabrics like jute, khadi, and cotton in earthy colours.
Bollywood celebrity and film producer Kiran Rao graced the ramp for EKA whose collection had beautiful traditional lacey whites and natural linen bringing in the summer with grace and poise.
B-town hunks Varun Dhawan and Arjun Kapoor were elegant white and black respectively in typical Kunal Rawal designs. The collection titled “Race Of Separates” was a treat with the goofiness of Varun entertaining the audience.
Amit Aggarwal’s metallic reimagining of the Patola sarees with geometric patterns brought the first day of LFW S/R to a close. The silhouette remained voluminous with clinched waists and flared lowers. He used blacks, reds, browns whites with start makeup and pulled in hair. Actor Tamanna Bhatia walked the ramp for Aggarwal.
