Youths who killed and ate a stray dog in Delhi's Munirka finally arrested by police

Two people were arrested on August 25, for brutally killing a stray dog and later eating it in Munirka locality of south Delhi on August 15.

Two people were arrested on August 25, for brutally killing a stray dog and later eating it in Munirka locality of south Delhi on August 15. According to media reports, the accused surrendered after police launched a manhunt to nab them.

An India Times report stated that the CCTV footage from the area was scanned by a team led by KP Kukrety, ACP Vasant Vihar and SHO (Vasant Vihar) Sukhdev Singh Maan to identify the culprits.

“The accused, T David Haokip (23) and Lalminsang Khongsai (20), are natives of Manipur and were living in Munirka and Katwariya Sarai, respectively. Both are unemployed,” said DCP (south) Ishwar Singh, according to the India Times report.

The faces of the accused were not clear in CCTV footage of the incident spot. Later, the police were able to find a video from a camera installed along the route taken by the accused in which their faces were clearer.

After the police identified the accused, photographs were developed and were shown to the residents of Munirka, Jia Sarai, Ber Sarai, Katwaria Sarai, Vasant Gaon and Kotla Mubarkpur.

A door-to-door survey was carried out during which cops found the address of the brother of one of the accused. Haokip had reportedly fled to Manipur. Khongsai’s whereabouts were also unknown.

After surrendering on Friday, the duo confessed to having killed the dog and eating it on August 15. The third accused, identified as James, is still absconding.

The police have booked the accused under IPC Section 428 (killing an animal) and Section 11 of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
