With the dismal gender ratio in Rajasthan, marriage has become a difficult proposition for the youths of the state. However, in the rural and semi-urban areas of Hadauti region, which comprises Kota, Bundi, Jhalawar and Baran, a new trend is on the rise. Touts are keeping an eye on bachelors who are not getting brides.They offer the family of the groom a bride in return of a handsome amount.
According to report in Times of India, Brides are being purchased in Rajasthan at Rs 50,000 to 1 lakh. “A bride is available for Rs 50,000 to 1 lakh,” said a tout, assuring `no risk’ in such alliances. “Nothing is unlawful and illegal in these marriages when the parents of the girl and the boy are ready for it,” the daily quoted him as saying he claimed.Surprisingly, prosperous communities like Mahashewari, Baniya, Jain and Bhramin are going for such marriages.
These brides are purchased from Madhya Pradesh (MP), Jharkhand, Bihar and Rajasthan too. Several of such allainces have been maded in Hadauti region. Namichand (name changed), a 42-year-old man of Baniya community , who works as an accountant in a private firm in Bundi could not find a bride in his community . Eventually, he purchased a bride from Jharkhand two years ago. The couple is now leading a happy life with their one-year-old child. “I wanted a family of my own and when I could not get a bride in my community , I purchased one for Rs 1lakh,” Namichand said, asking what is wrong in it.
