Unless you are covered under a thick blanket of smog and are choking under its effect, you know that Delhi is in a bit of a mess at the moment. The National Capital woke up on Wednesday to the second day of haze as pollution propelled,  hitting 30 times the World Health Organization’s safe level, prompting doctors in the national capital to warn of a public health emergency.

The good people of Indian Medical Association are tired of ringing the alarm bells and authorities have closed all schools until Monday.

People are complaining about burning sensation in the eye, dryness in throat, itchy skin and irritation in the nose. While everybody is taking certain precautions to be safe, here are some essentials that you need to deal with hazardous Delhi air.

Install air purifiers: You certainly can’t stop air, but you can try to purify. Especially, if you have any asthma patient, children or elderly at home, install air purifiers in your rooms.

Avoid going out: Try to stay indoors. Skip traveling, take work from home, and even avoid going out for a walk. In case, there is no work from home facility at your workplace, change your travel time and avoid going out during peak hours.

Cover yourself: Cover your face with air mask, at least it would be a little more healthy. Wear full-sleeves clothes and cover your skin. The irritants mixed in the air might cause skin infections. According to Medical experts, N95 and N99 pollution masks are most effective.

Drink lots of water: Opt for a balanced diet and ensure that you drink lots of water to flush off pollutants. You can add basil leaves and honey to your diet to boost the immune system.

Plants: Get some plants at home for natural therapy. Plants are a type of natural purifiers that help you breathe healthily.
