After a 16-year-old girl was allegedly raped by four of her classmates in Dehradun, the authorities at the boarding school tried to get her an abortion once they discovered that she had gotten pregnant after the sexual assault, the police said.
According to the police, the principal of the school was arrested along with two officials on Tuesday after the victim, who is a student of Class 10, accused them of suppressing the matter. Reportedly, the sexual assault had taken place in the month of August, however, the authorities at school asked her to keep it under wraps.
The victim was asked not to inform her family, including her sister who studies in the same school. But, when the victim found out she was pregnant, she confided in her sister, which is when the matter came to light. Reportedly, upon finding out that she had gotten pregnant, authorities tried to abort the pregnancy by mixing medicines in her drink.
According to a Hindustan Times report, on September 16, Senior Superintendent of Police Nivedita Kukreti ordered an investigation upon learning about the alleged rape. The police have now booked the four minors and the officials at school under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
On August 14, the victim was allegedly lured by the four senior boys, who are students of Class 12, under the pretext of preparations for an Independence Day event and raped. “The victim then returned to the hostel and informed the hostel caretaker. Rather than taking any action against the four boys, she told her to remain silent and informed the administrative officer (AO),” a police official told HT.
