Recently, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah was found sleeping not only during the meetings but also during the legislative sessions

The maiden session of the 17th Uttar Pradesh assembly session not only witnessed an uproar in the house by the opposition parties but also witnessed MLAs sleeping in Lok Bhawan, Lucknow on May 15. Many UP MLAs were caught on camera sleeping during a meeting on Goods and Service Tax (GST).

The GST Bill has already been cleared by the Parliament. Now it requires nod of the states to notify rule and regulations by the respective state governments for its implementation from July. The legislative assembly had called this session for passing the UP GST bill amongst others.

This is not the first time when the ministers were caught on camera while sleeping during assembly session. Recently, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah was found sleeping not only during the meetings but also during the legislative sessions.


The opposition has accused Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s led govt in UP that it has failed to keep intact the law and order in the state.

The Samajwadi Party (SP) said that it opposed the proceeding of the house to express displeasure over the poor governance of the Adityanath dispensation. The uproar in the assembly was such that Governor Ram Naik address also drowned in the noise.

The opposition members hurled paper balls at the podium while the marshals tried to dodge them away with files.

Also, this was the first time ever when the proceedings of the UP assembly were telecasted live on television.
