MP Amar Singh gets 'Z' security cover back due to "recent activities" in UP

The officials stated that the Ministry of Home Affairs issued an order on this matter on January 7 and asked Central Industrial Security Force to follow the orders with immediate effect.

Observing the current scenario in Uttar Pradesh, the Samajwadi Party leader and Rajya Sabha MP Amar Singh has been granted ‘Z’ category security cover of Central Paramilitary Commandos by the central government.

The officials stated that the Ministry of Home Affairs issued an order on this matter on January 7 and asked Central Industrial Security Force to follow the orders with immediate effect. ” Keeping in mind the recent activities, there is a possible threat to Amar Singh,” said an official.

Amar Singh became MP in May 2016 after the betterment of his terms with the ruling Samajwadi Party, is in the focus light again as Mulayam and his son Akhilesh Yadav are at two different ends of a party internal war.

As said by the officials, Amar Singh was a protectee of the central CISF cover from 2008 to mid-2016 and then, this task was handed over to the UP Police by the MoH.

“In mid-2016, the cover was withdrawn by the Centre and UP Police was asked to take over. And now, it has again been revised to the earlier ‘Z’ category under the same force — CISF,” said an official.

This security cover has been granted based on threat inputs provided by central security agencies that stated that Singh faces possible danger and hence should be brought under “proximate” VIP security cover of central security forces commandos.
