Mithun Chakraborty resigns from Rajya Sabha

Mithun Chakraborty who was nominated by West Bengal submit Chief Minister Mamaya Banerjee submitted his resignation today.

Actor Mithun Chakraborty on 26 December resigned from the Rajya Sabha. Mithun Chakraborty was a Trinamool Congress MP. Even though the exact reason for his resignation has not yet been ascertained, the party has said that he was resigning due to ill health.

Earlier this year, reports emerged that the actor and a TMC member was pulled up by fellow members due to nonattendance saying that he had hardly attended upper house sessions. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had nominated Mithun Chakraborty in Rajya Sabha.

Following Chakraborty’s repeated absence from the house, the members of the upper house had asserted that only the members who can contribute effectively to the party should be nominated. According to reports, Mithun Chakraborty often wrote to the house stating that he could attend the session citing health reasons.
