Delhi Police files FIR against VK Sasikala's nephew Dinakaran in alleged bribery case

At least Rs 1.3 crore has been recovered from TTV Dinakaran, which he was allegedly planning to use to bribe EC officials.

The Delhi Police today registered an FIR against VK Sasikala’s nephew and AIADMK Amma party’s deputy general secretary TTV Dinakaran. The crime branch police have accused Dinakaran of bribing officials over the AIADMK symbol row.

His faction contested on the hat symbol after the election commission froze their two leaves symbol acknowledging the split in the party. The police action comes in the wake of arrest of an alleged middleman named Sukesh Chandrasekhar from Hyatt hotel on April 16 night.

According to a TOI report, at least Rs 1.3 crore has been recovered from Dinakaran, which he was allegedly planning to use to bribe EC officials.

The report suggested that Dinakaran will soon be served with a notice to join the investigation. The police have formed a special team comprising sleuths of the inter-state cell of crime branch to probe the high profile case.

The case against Dinakaran comes even as a major crisis looms in the state government with a section of ministers revolting against him and seeking his resignation as party deputy general secretary.

Dinakaran is the party’s candidate for the RK Nagar bypoll, which the Election Commission postponed amid allegations of widespread use of money power. RK Nagar was the constituency of the late J Jayalalithaa.

He is also facing a Foreign Exchange Regulations Act (FERA) violation case with Enforcement Directorate (ED) probing unexplained deposits of big chunks of money into his accounts between during 1991 to 1995. Jayalalithaa was the chief minister at that time.
