'PM Modi became fair by eating imported mushrooms,' says Congress leader. Twitter LOLs hard

With this the Gujarat elections 2017 can, inarguably, be called the most amusing elections ever.

In case you haven’t noticed, #Imported Mushrooms has been trending on Twitter since afternoon. As bizarre as it sounds, the reason behind its sudden transcendence to celebrity status on Twitter is ridiculous, to say the least. Apparently, Congress leader and social/political activist Alpesh Thakor, during one of his election campaigns, said, “PM Modi was black like me, but he became fair because he is eating imported mushroom since he was CM,” as per News 18. With this, the trend of politicians making odd statements during the Gujarat elections, has reached a whole new level of absurd.

Needless to say, Thakor’s statement is completely frivolous, and has, not surprisingly, become a major topic of debate on social media. Because what on earth does that have to do with the Gujarat elections? Aren’t we supposed to focus on the real issues here? Apparently not.

Thakor did not stop at the previous comment, as he went on to enlighten the masses about how expensive the “imported mushrooms” are. “PM Modi eats imported mushrooms. One mushroom costs Rs 80,000 and he eats 5 mushrooms a day,” he added.

As soon as Imported Mushrooms started trending, Tweeples couldn’t stop LOL-ing. Of course, then came the barrage of memes.
