Pilot of 9W 118 Jet Airways flight with 330 passengers on board went off to sleep as plane went off radar

A Jet Airways flight plane went off the radar few weeks ago due to which the German Air Force plans had to step in an intercept the plane.

Days after 2 German Air Force planes had to intercept and escort Jet Airways plane with 330 passengers and 15 crew members on board because it went off the radar, an enquiry has reportedly revealed that one of the pilot on the plane was asleep while the other one was on wrong frequency.

According to a Times of India report, sources have confirmed that one of the pilot was taking “controlled rest” and the other one was on the wrong frequency with the volume of the headset lowered due to which the Air Traffic Control were unable to communicate with the flight. However, there has been no official confirmation regarding the same. The exact cause of the incident is not ascertained as yet and can be only confirmed after a detailed investigation by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

The German ATC were unable to establish a communication with the aircraft for over 30 minutes prompting them German Air force planes to come tot heir rescue. Last week, the Jet Airways released a statement saying, “Contact between Jet Airways flight 9W 118, from Mumbai to London Heathrow, of February 16, 2017, and the local ATC, was briefly lost while flying over German airspace.” However, when the daily contacted the Jet Airways officials, the airline company said that the matter was under investigation and they could not confirm or make any comments at the moment.

After failing to make contact with the plane, two Eurofighter Typhoons belonging to the German Air Force were sent to intercept the flight. You can see the video here:
