Pakistani Man Posing As Indian On Matrimonial Site Threatens To Kill Mumbai Woman

The woman started to get suspicious when the man asked her about her choices and hobbies, but dodged any question directed at him

Setting up a profile on a matrimonial website turned out to be a luckless experience for a Mumbai woman, as her suitor turned out to be an imposter from Pakistan, who threatened to kill her after she rejected his marriage proposal. Reportedly, the man lied about his identity and claimed to be an Indian working as a doctor in London.

The woman claimed that when she first uploaded her picture, she received several proposals on the matrimonial website. On July 1, she was approached by a man who allegedly told her that he hailed from Nagpur, and was currently working at a London hospital. “He said that that he belongs to Nagpur and after termination of his contract with the London hospital, he would come back to India to start a family here,” the woman told ANI.

The woman started to get suspicious when the man asked her about her choices and hobbies, but dodged any question directed at him, continuing to be arcane about his life. Instead, he shared pictures of his “photo ID” from the hospital. Eager to put her suspicions to rest, the woman called up the hospital, only to find that the man she had been talking to has never worked there.

Upon closer examination, the woman spotted a phone number of a photo studio in one of the pictures shared by him. “I noticed the number of a photo studio in one of the pictures shared by him and decided to call that number,” she said.

When she called, she was shocked to find out that the man was from Pakistan and was already married with three children. According to the person she spoke to, who was reportedly the man’s friend, he had duped several women in the same way.

Furious, the woman decided to confront him. “I asked him upfront, which city in Pakistan does he belong to? First, he tried to cajole me, but later threatened to kill me if I interfered in his life,” she told ANI.

The woman, who is a freelancer at a five-star hotel in Mumbai, has now filed a complaint against the imposter at the Versova police station. While the police have registered a complaint of non-cognizable offence, the woman requested for an FIR, asking for a criminal investigation into the case.
