Namrata Jain makes Bastar proud, becomes first from region to break into UPSC top 100

Namrata Jain said that if she wants to work in her hometown Bastar in Chattisgarh as she understands the area

Namrata Jain, a resident of Bastar has cracked UPSC exam this year by securing 99th position and by doing so she has become the first person from the Naxal-hit area to come in the list of top 100. From a very early age, she has vowed that she would do improve the conditions of her hometown. It all started when she was 10 years old, when a group of Naxalites attacked a police station in Geedam in Dantewada, putting it to flames. 11 police personnel lost their lives in the attack.

“I was born here, grew up here, and this place gave me the inspiration to become an IAS officer. I was a very young girl when I saw the police camp attack, and I knew then that I wanted to contribute to the country, to try and fix these issues, and hopefully be able to work for my area”, she said.

After completing her class X at Nirmal Niketan School, she went to Bhilai for higher studies and did her engineering from Bhilai Institute of Technology. For the preparation of UPSC, she went to Delhi but could crack the prelims in the first attempt. After which she came back to Dantewada and took classes at a coaching institute, Lakshya and cleared both prelims and mains.

Namrata has put Chhattisgarh as the first preference for both IAS and IPS cadre, two services she has applied for and wants to join IAS. She said that if the opportunity comes her way she would want to work in her hometown Bastar because it’s going through many problems and she clearly understands the area.
