Missing JNU student Najeeb Ahmed’s roommate in the hostel who was supposed to undergo a polygraph test did not give it despite giving a nod to it recently. However, it is not yet clear as why he chose to not be present during the lie-detector test.
More than two months after the Jawaharlal Nehru student Najeeb Ahmed went missing, the Delhi police on 21 December said that they were going to conduct a lie detector test on the Najeeb’s roommate.
There is still no trace of the missing student despite several efforts to look for him is being made including award money being announced. Protests have been held in the national capital with the people demanding immediate action to look for Najeeb.
Last week, the Delhi High Court pulled up the police for dilly-dallying in the case. Expressing displeasure over the search operations being conducted, the court directed the police to scan the entire campus by using sniffer dogs. The top court had also asked the police to record the statements of some students who have been suspected of thrashing Najeeb a day before he disappeared.
This intervention came as Najeeb’s mother, Fatima Nafees, approached the court after facing rejection from all quarters in her tryst to find her son who has been missing since the intervening night of October 14-15.
The Najeeb’s mother’s lawyer has claimed that the police is not paying much attention to the possibility of him being kidnapped. The lawyer also alleged that the police is only working on the theory that it could be Najeeb’s own decision to leave the campus owing to some mental instability.
The four students suspected of beating up Najeeb were also asked to undergo lie-detector tests to get leads or clues about his disappearance.
It all started in the month of October when a scuffle reportedly broke out in room number 106 at the Mahi Mandavi hostel. While some claim Ahmad slapped ABVP candidate Vikrant who is contesting for the post of mess secretary. Others say Najeeb was thrashed by ABVP members.
