Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Friday launched a scathing attack on the Narendra Modi government, calling the demonetisation move as the biggest scam in the country’s history.
“I want to speak in the Lok Sabha, and my speech will definitely shake Parliament,” Gandhi told reporters.
“The PM is delivering speeches across the country but is scared to issue a statement in Parliament. Why?” the Congress scion said. The opposition parties continue to storm both Houses of Parliament on the demonetisation issue, seeking PM Modi’s statement.
Earlier in the day, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh too attacked his successor, saying that the move has hit the people who earn in cash and the black money hoarders continue to remain unaffected.
Opposition parties continue to criticise the bold move by the Modi government, calling it anti-poor and against the interests of common man.
“You will have to admit that it is a decision against the interest of the country,” CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury said in Rajya Sabha.
“The government needs to rethink on the demonetisation or farmers will have to bear huge losses. They will be ruined,” Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati said in Rajya Sabha. The Narendra Modi government on November 8 announced the demonetisation move, scrapping the old Rs 1,000 and 500 notes, and replacing them with new currencies of denomination 500 and 2,000. The government cited the bold move was intended to crack down on black money and corruption.
