Kulbhushan Jadhav hearing at ICJ: India fears Pakistan may execute death sentence before decision

The International Court of Justice is holding public hearings after India reached out for its intervention against Pakistan awarding a death sentence to Kulbhushan Jadhav

The hearing for India’s plea against the death sentence awarded to Kulbhushan Jadhav by a Pakistan court has begun in the International Court of Justice. The ICJ is holding public hearings in the case. The principal judicial organ of the United Nations had on May 9 put a stay on the death sentence to the former Indian Navy officer.

The development came after India instituted proceedings against Pakistan, accusing the latter of “egregious violations of the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations” in the matter of detention and trial of Jadhav, and sought a stay on his death sentence.
