Kudos to these two wives of Army officers who averted a hostage crisis in Nagrota!

Armed terrorists disguised in uniform tried to enter the army quarters with an intention to hold the families of soldiers and officers hostage

It was the bravery of these two wives of army officers who helped in averting a major hostage crisis during the Nagrota encounter in Jammu on Tuesday.

After entering the army unit, the armed terrorists disguised in uniform tried to enter the family quarters with an intention to hold the families of soldiers and officers hostage.

But kudos to these two women who blocked the entry of their quarters with all household items. The alertness of the two army officers, who were on night duty when the encounter broke out, made it difficult for terrorists to break into the houses, an army told news agency PTI.

If it were not for these women, the terrorists could have barged the quarters and taken the families of the army officers hostage.

“The terrorists entered two buildings which were occupied by officers, families, and men. This led to a hostage-like situation. The situation was very quickly contained and thereafter, in a deliberate operation all were successfully rescued, which included 12 soldiers, two women, and two babies,” Defence spokesman Lt Col Manish Mehta told PTI.

Two officers along with five other army personnel were martyred in the encounter. Three terrorists were also killed in the stand-off.
