Indrani Mukerjea, 200 others booked for rioting, destruction of property in Mumbai jail

Indrani Mukerjea who is currently lodged in Mumbai’s Byculla Jail in the Sheena Bora murder case has been accused of rioting, destruction of property and injuring the jail staff. She was one of the 200 odd jail inmates who were protesting the death of the 45-year-old Manjura Shetye, a prisoner, who was allegedly beaten to death by the police.

Former media executive Indrani Mukerjea is one of the accused in her daughter Sheena Bora murder. 24-year-old Bora was killed on April 24, 2012. Her husband Peter Mukerjea and ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna are also in judicial custody for the same case.

On January 17, a special CBI court in New Delhi had framed charges against Indrani Mukerjea, Peter Mukerjea and Sanjeev Khanna in connection with Sheena Bora murder case. All three of them were charged with the murder, kidnapping, abetment to murder, hatching a conspiracy and other charges, of Sheena Bora who was working with Mumbai Metro One Pvt Ltd.

After which Indrani Mukherjea told the court that she wants a divorce from husband Peter Mukherjea, former media baron, who is also one of the accused in Sheena Bora Murder case. She has gone ahead to seek the court’s permission to file a case for the same.

The murder came to light when Indrani’s driver Shyamwar Rai was arrested in an arms case in 2015. Later, Bora’s half-burnt remains were found in forests near Mumbai.

Earlier, there were reports that Indrani is spending her time in prison by translating Gita Shlokas from Sanskrit to English and had translated as many as 700 Sanskrit shlokas. She also told the judge of Central Bureau of Investigation HS Mahajan that she wants to publish a book.
