India feels proud! Navy conducts maiden test-firing of anti-ship missile from Kalvari submarine

Terming the test-fire as the milestone, Navy officials said that the missile provide the submarine the ability to neutralise surface threats at extended ranges

In a proud moment for the country, the Indian Navy on March 2 morning successfully conducted maiden test firing of an AntiShip missile from Kalvari class submarines, which is the first in a series of Scorpene class submarine being built in India, officials said, adding that the missile has successfully hit a surface target at extended ranges.

Terming the test-fire as the milestone, Navy officials said that the missile provide the submarine the ability to neutralise surface threats at extended ranges.

Soon after the successful test-fire, Indian Prime Minister Narendar Modi took to his Twitter handle to congratulate the India Navy for this feat. He wrote: “Hearty congratulations to our defence scientists for the successful demonstration of ballistic missile defence capability.”

In an another tweet PM wrote: “With this, India joins the select group of five nations with such capability- a proud moment for the entire country.”

Meanwhile, Indian Navy spokesperson shared the details of the missile launch through their official Twitter handle. While praising Navy for the achievement, it said the missile launch is a significant milestone, not only for the Kalvari, which is the first in a series of Scorpene class submarines being built in India, but also in enhancing the Indian Navy’s sub-surface war capability.
