As the nation remembers Sant Ravidas on his 640th birth anniversary, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to the late saint describing him as person of pure thoughts and ideals.

“I bow to Guru Ravidas Ji on the special occasion of Guru Ravidas Jayanti, his pure thoughts & ideals have a profound impact on society,” Prime Minister said in a tweet.

” Guru Ravidas Ji emphasised on the values of harmony, equality and compassion, which are central to India’s culture and ethos.” he added.

Every year, February 10 is celebrated as the Ravidas Jayanti in the memory of Indian poet and sant, whose devotional songs made a huge impact during Bhakti movement.

General Secretary of Sri Guru Ravidas Janam Asthan Public Charitable (SGRJAPC) Trust Satpaul Virdi said, turnout of devotees is higher than the last year. In order to provide space to the number of devotees the count of tents has increased to 75, last year 50 tents were installed. Devotees are not only coming from different states like Uttar Pradesh, Uttarkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana but there are many foreign devotees who have come from UK, US, Canada, Germany, Italy, Spain, Austria, New Zealand.

Last year on the occasion of Guru Ravidas Jayanti, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Delhi’s Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal paid a visit to Shri Guru Ravidass Janam Asthan Mandir, in Seer Gowardhan area of Varanasi.
