Haryana govt reveals Dera Sacha Sauda's net worth and the figures will leave you shell-shocked

The Punjab and Haryana High Court had directed that the losses incurred due to violence after Gurmeet Ram Rahim's conviction would be compensated by attaching Dera Sacha Sauda properties

Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim is currently lodged in Rohtak jail after being sentenced to 20 years in prison on two rape charges. On the other hand, the Delhi High Court has rejected the bail plea of his allegedly adopted daughter Honeypreet Insan, who is facing charges of sedition and inciting violence following the godman’s conviction last month. However, it is learnt that the Dera owned properties to the tune of more than Rs 1,600 crore.

The Manohar Lal Khattar government submitted a report to the Punjab and Haryana High Court which reveals startling details of the huge wealth amassed by the sect across north India. The court ordered the Enforcement Directorate and the Income Tax department to look into the allegations of money laundering into the functioning of the sect. According to reports, the Dera owns properties worth Rs 1,453 crore in Sirsa alone where its headquarters are situated. It should be mentioned that the estimate does not include assets owned outside Haryana. It owns 953 acres of land in six tehsils of Sirsa. There is a five-star hotel,  a cinema hall, a multi-speciality hospital, eight educational institutions, a shopping mall, a cricket stadium and manufacturing units that are not in the land valuation process.

A leading news website stated that the actual value of Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh’s organisation could be much higher as the estimate was drawn on the basis of rates available with the district collectors.

The Khattar government’s report came in response to a directive by the Punjab & Haryana High Court which had stated that the Dera Sacha Sauda would be paying for the damages incurred in the violence committed by Gurmeet Ram Rahim’s followers on August 25, the day when a special CBI court in Panchkula had convicted him in the sexual assault case. More than 35 people were killed and 200 injured in the widespread incidents of arson in Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Delhi.
