Harbhajan Singh is NOT joining politics, calls them rumours

Earlier in the day, it was being reported that Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh may join the Congress party soon and will contest for Jalandhar.

Indian Cricketer Harbhajan Singh on 22 December rubbished all the reports of possibilities of him joining the Congress party saying that he had no plans to join politics anytime soon. He took to Twitter clarify his stand on this.

Earlier today, it was being reported that Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh may join Congress party soon.

According to several media reports, Harbhajan Singh had been in touch and had been in talks with Congress party leaders about joining the party. Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh who resigned from his Amritsar Lok Sabha seat in protest against the Supreme Court judgement, had said that they will be happy to have to him on board. However, he did not give any clarity of which segment of Punjab will Harbhajan Singh join.

The initial reports suggested that Harbhajan Singh may contest for Jalandhar seat.

Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh who had announced the decision had asserted that with like-minded people joining the party, Congress will be further strengthened ahead of the Punjab Assembly elections.

Amarinder Singh resigned from the from his Amritsar Lok Sabha seat in protest against the Supreme Court judgement holding the 2004 law passed by Punjab to terminate the Sutlej Yamuna Link (SYL) canal water sharing agreement with neighbouring states as unconstitutional. All the Congress MLAs too resigned from the Punjab Assembly as well.
