Hand holding for social media now? Literature students at Delhi University may be taught 'Facebook post writing'

Earlier, DU had announced author Chetan Bhagat’s book 'Five Point Someone' to be part of the English Literature syllabus

After literature and poetry, now the students of English department in Delhi University (DU) might be taught to write ‘Facebook post writing’. As per the department’s draft curriculum for the coming academic year, the students as a part of ‘ Academic writing’ might have an option to learn ‘facebook post writing’ also.

In a report published in NDTV, Head of the English Department, Christel Devadawson, said, “We want to give students every option possible, such as the academic and professional writing of different kinds. We have noticed that students have had to go outside the university to acquire such skills, at some cost of their own.” She added that the facebook post writings will be beneficial in today’s age of digital.

However, many students and teachers have raised their concern on introducing facebook post writings as a part of the syllabus and said that they would rather want to study literature in its pure form.

An English Professor in DU Siddharth Kanoujia, said, “Facebook is a tool for people to share their opinions and thoughts openly. This course would control the way students write on social media, regulate their thoughts. You would make them think of the form of their posts, or language of their writing, which ends up controlling content as well. It’s restrictive to their ideas.

Meanwhile, few days back DU had announced author Chetan Bhagat’s book ‘Five Point Someone’ to be part of the English Literature syllabus. After which, the author took to twitter to share his views, he wrote, “Am honoured DU added my books to their course. Literature is about being open minded, reading the classics as well as the contemporary”.
