Does Dera Sacha Sauda have a 'suicide squad' to protect Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh?

Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh was convicted and sentenced to 20 years in jail in a 15-year-old rape case. Here's what the investigations reveal

Days after Dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh was sentenced to 20 years in jail for raping 2 women devotees in 2002, CBI has been investigating alleged criminal activities by Dera Sacha Sauda. The investigating bureau has recovered various documents including one where a resident of Sirsa has asserted that no one, not even the Dera would be responsible if something ever happens to her.

“I have dedicated my life to the cause of humanity that has been promoted by the Dera Sacha Sauda. If I die in an accident or in any other way, I will be responsible for it. No one else can be held responsible for my death. Dera Sacha Sauda too will not be responsible for my death. None of my descendants or family members will have the right to hold Dera Sacha Sauda responsible for my death,” Indu, a resident of Sirsa was quoted as saying.

The affidavit has reportedly been signed by Indu on October 20, 2005. It is being reported that many such documents that are now coming to the light suggest that the Dera was allegedly coming up with its “suicide squad” of followers. As per the police, these followers could go to any length to cause unrest and pressurise the authorities investigation cases again Rahim Singh.

Haryana’s Inspector General (IG) KK Rao claimed that Ram Rahim’s guards did try to help him escape after the verdict was pronounced. However, their attempts were foiled due to high-security arrangements made.

“We were asked to not to let the convoy, following the Dera chief, to enter the area near the court premises. Few incidents did take place during this time, if we would not have taken care, then it would have caused a lot of danger,” the IG said.

“Baba had planned a conspiracy. As soon as the court pronounced him guilty, he asked us to bring the Red bag, saying that his clothes are inside that bag. The bag was a signal for the supporters of Baba, who were waiting outside. As soon as the bag was taken out, we heard his supporters started protesting outside and it was then we came to know that he has planned to give signals to this protester and everything had a hidden meaning,” he added.

Over 38 people lost their lives and as many as 300 were left injured after a massive violence broke out follow CBI court’s verdict.
