Couple found dead in Delhi's OYO rooms, probe underway

OYO Rooms is a budget hotel which allows unmarried couples to book rooms without hassles using its website and app.

In a shocking incident, a boy and a girl were found hanging from the ceiling fan of a room in an OYO Rooms branch in Delhi’s Dwarka Sector 17 on July 14. According to reports, the incident is believed to be case of suspected double suicide.

A News18 report suggested that the deceased, both aged around 20, had checked into the hotel, a favourite among couples on July 14. They were found dead on Friday when the housekeeping staff of the hotel repeatedly knocked on the room door but got no reply.

After getting no response from inside the room, the staff immediately informed the hotel manager, who decided to wait a while since the hotel promises total privacy to its guests. They waited for over an hour, following which they broke open the door and found the couple hanging.

The Delhi Police reportedly said that prima facie it appears to be a case of double suicide, but they’ll look for all angles during the probe. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem.

According to a DNA report, the police did not reveal the names of the deceased. Also, the girl is stated to be a MBBS student at Lady Hardinge College.

The girl’s father works as a wireless operator in the CRPF whereas the boy’s father runs a grocery store.

The crime and forensics team was called on the location to scan the room. The building has around 20 rooms. Further investigations are underway.
