Close shave at Delhi's IGI airport after Indigo and SpiceJet flights come face to face

Just hours after Jet Airways Goa-Mumbai flight skidded off runway, a major accident was averted after two aircraft came face to face

A major mishap was averted after IndiGo and a SpiceJet airplane came face-to-face on the runway at Delhi Indira Gandhi International airport on 27 December.

According to reports, the pilots had to bring their flights to halt after they came face to face. The SpiceJet who had traveled from Lucknow was taking off when the incident took place early this morning.

A probe has been ordered to understand how the incident took place. Further details awaited on the incident. SpiceJet said in a statement saying the flight was following ATC’s instructions and the safety of the passengers were not compromised at any given point of time.

However, this is the second incident relating to flight mishap has taken place in the last 12 hours.

Earlier today, a Jet Airways flight from Goa to Mumbai with 161 people onboard, including seven crew members, skidded off the runway on Tuesday morning.

Fifteen out of 154 passengers who were onboard, sustained minor injuries. All guests and crew have been safely evacuated.

The incident took place around 4.45 am when Jet Airways flight 9W 2374 was aligning to takeoff from Dabolim Airport. All the arrivals and departures have been delayed after the incident took place. The injured were provided medical aide immediately.

One of the passengers told ANI that the incident was much bigger than it looked like while claiming that the engine had exploded. Some of them even went on to claim that help arrived only after 20-25 minutes the incident took place.
