UPSC 2016 Results: Andhra Farmer's son secures 3rd position, Telangana Ex-DGP's son stood 22nd

Gopala Krishna Ronanki from Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh has secured the third position in the UPSC examinations while an engineer from Hyderabad named Muzammil Khan secured the 22nd rank

The results of the All India Civil Services examination 2016, conducted by the Union Public Service Commission, are out and two boys from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, respectively, have secured the top positions in the merit list. Gopala Krishna Ronanki from Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh has secured the third position in the UPSC examinations while an engineer from Hyderabad named Muzammil Khan secured the 22nd rank.

30-year-old Gopala Krishnan hails from a remote village of Andhra’s Srikakulam district and is a son of a farmer. He did his graduation in pharmacy from Vizag and later pursued MBA  from Niper, Mohali. He completed his schooling in Telugu Medium and appeared for the interviews in Telugu.

According to several media reports, Gopala appeared in few of the mock interviews in an institute called Brain Tree India coaching centre in Hyderabad where he performed extremely well. Dr Gopalakrishna, director of the coaching centre has been reported saying that the third-ranked was a “brilliant student”. He said,”He appeared for the mock interview rounds and looked very bright.”

The other candidate who secured 22nd rank in all-India UPSC results, Muzammil Khan, is an electrical engineer who passed out from Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS), Pilani. His father, Abdul Khayyum Khan, is a retired IPS officer who had served as the Hyderabad City police commissioner and director general of the Anti-Corruption Bureau in the Telangana government.

According to Hindustan Times report, Muzammil cleared the exams in his second attempt despite cracking Indian Railway Services (IRS) in the first. He was quoted saying,”I could make it to the IRS in the first attempt but tried yet another time and made it to the IAS on the second try. I’m happy and feel lucky to get this in the holy month Ramzan.”

Muzammil opted anthropology as his subject in the mains and gave the credit of his success to his father.
