BJP's political parent wants green taken off national flag

The article questions the existence of separate personal laws, separate schools or madrasas, separate law courts for Muslims

Bharatiya Janata Party’s political parent, Bharatiya Jana Sangh, wants the Central government to remove green colour from India’s flag.

In the September issue of its monthly magazine, Jana Sangh Today, a cover story titled ‘Abolish Minority Concept’ is published with a cover picture of the national flag in which green has been replaced by saffron.

The magazine editorial says that the concept of minorities was created by Jawaharlal Nehru after the Partition, and that it would divide the country once again.

The article questions the existence of separate personal laws, separate schools or madrasas, separate law courts for Muslims.

“In the garb of minority, yet another partition is being worked upon. Beware and abolish the idea of minority. All are equal,” it says.

The editorial states that Mahatma Gandhi adopted a policy of Muslim appeasement. “According to Gandhi: Hindus must sacrifice their interest to keep the Muslims on the side of the Congress so that the British face a united opposition to their rule in India,” the editorial states.

With BJP in power in Centre, it is to be seen whether it will pay heed to the demands of its political parent.
