Assam Woman, Who Killed Father During Rape Attempt, Faces Murder Charge

The incident came to light when the family reported the father as missing on May 11 at the Biswanath Chariali police station

A 25-year-old woman from Assam’s Biswanath district now faces a murder charge, along with four of her family members, for killing her 71-year-old father when he attempted to rape her.

The incident came to light when the family reported the father as missing on May 11 at the Biswanath Chariali police station. However, when accounts from family members failed to coincide, an investigation led to the discovery of the father’s decomposed body from a 15-foot-deep pit in the family’s backyard on Tuesday.

According to the police, the man was murdered by his daughter—an MA student—with an axe, and his body was later dumped with the assistance of four family members, The Hindustan Times reported. It has been alleged that the daughter—who confessed to the murder—axed her father when he tried to rape her at the residence.

“According to the woman’s statement, the man tried to rape her around 11 pm that night. When she resisted, he pulled out an axe. But she overpowered him and killed him with the same weapon,” a police officer told HT.

The police reported that the woman’s mother and brother then assisted her with concealing the body in another room. While the daughter has been arrested for murder, the mother, brother and two more sisters have been charged with concealing evidence.

“The family members kept the body concealed in plastic bags for the three days it took to dig the pit. They finally buried it on March 7.” the police officer told HT. The police is now investigating the crime as a possible property dispute case.
