Amazon to take 20,000 Indian sellers to US, Europe; Amul ghee, gulab jamuns among most loved products

Amul ghee and Gulab Jamun are selling really well and top the category of edibles on Amazon in the US and Europe

Major online retail site Amazon.com is taking Indian desi product and selling it Unites States and Europe. Amazon has taken products over 20,000 sellers from India and sells over 40 million products sourced from the country in areas such textile, leather goods and organic products in the US, Canada, the UK, Spain, Italy, Mexico, France and Germany.

Fashion brand like Biba, Titan, Manyavar are some of the brands that have caught the fancy of the US and European customers.

Since Amazon’s Global Selling Program took off in May 2015 with just about 200 sellers, there has been a record growth of 100 times.

According to the reports published in the ‘DNA’, the Amazon India director and GM (seller services), Gopal Pillai said, “Amul ghee and gulab jamuns are selling really well and top the category of edibles.”

“The popularity of leather products from Dharavi in Boston or Chicago is now a classic success story”, Pillai further added.

According to Pillai, Amazon has been conducting training programmes in states like Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, helping them with selecting the right product for online sales and create catalogs, while in Gujarat it had earlier signed MoU with the state government meant for tribal entrepreneurs.

Pillai added, “some of the Indian products can be shipped to Amazon Fulfilment Centres in the US so that they become eligible for two-day shipping.”
