After UP, Now First-Year Students In Odisha Thrashed, Forced To Dance

Odisha ranks among the top 5 states to receive maximum anti-ragging complaints

Final year engineering students of Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT) in Sambalpur district, Odisha, allegedly slapped 50 first and second-year students, tore off their clothes and forced them to dance in their undergarments.

The videos of the ragging incident have gone viral. This comes just days after 150 first-year students were forced to shave their heads and salute their seniors in a medical college in Uttar Pradesh.

VSSUT Vice-Chancellor Atal Chaudhuri said in a statement,

“Such kind of incident cannot be tolerated. An inquiry would be conducted into the incident and exemplary action taken against those found guilty.”

According to reports, at least 10 students were debarred from appearing examinations for a year over a ragging incident.

Odisha ranks among the top 5 states to receive maximum anti-ragging complaints through anti-ragging helpline 1800-180-5522. Odisha received an average of 35 complaints each year while UP topped in UGC’s campus ragging list.
