765 days & counting: Kerala youth's protest for justice

He is waging a lone battle to ensure justice for his brother's death.

29-year-old Sreejith from Kerala is all over the news. The man from Thiruvananthapuram is waging a lone battle. After his brother’s death in 2014, Sreejith has been on a peaceful protest. For the past 765 days, he has been sitting outside state secretariat to demand justice for his brother’s alleged custodial death. His brother Sreejeev was arrested in May 2014 for theft. However, he died a few days later in a hospital.

Police said that Sreejeev committed suicide by consuming poison. But his family alleges that the cause of his death was police torture. They are demanding a CBI probe into the matter. But CBI, on the other hand, is refusing to take up the case. Sreejith’s battle for justice has turned into a mass public movement and many political leaders and film stars have also come out in support.
