45 inmates try to escape from a prison in Goa, attack police officials

While the police officials have claimed that the inmates attacked them over something really petty, one inmate claimed police thrashed him for no reason.

In a shocking incident, at least 45 inmates attempted to escape Sada sub jail in Goa after attacking a number of police officials who tried to stop them on January 25.

According to reports, the incident took place at around 11 pm when the prisoners and the police officials got into an ugly scuffle after the prisoners allegedly attacked the jailor and the other personnel. The reason of the fight has not been ascertained as yet. After the fight, the inmates tried to flee due to which additional police forces had to be deployed. The prisoners also went on to cause serious damage to the prison. However, the police officials confirmed that the prisoners had been overpowered and the situation was under control now.

One of the police officials asserted that the jailor had sustained grave injuries and was rushed to the nearby hospital immediately for treatment.

Also, an inmate has claimed that the police attacked him and thrashed him for no specific reason.

“The jailor was seriously injured and he has been taken to Goa Medical College and Hospital. All the 45 inmates together launched attack on the officials, guards and jail property. They tried to flee the jail premises,” Deputy Superintendent of Police Lowrence D’Souza said.

“The exact reason for the trouble cannot be known at this moment as our main aim is to ensure that the prisoners don’t flee from the jail,” he added.

The entire area was cordoned off after the several police officials rushed to the spot after the incident was reported to them. Even though the exact reason is known as yet, the police officials claimed that chaos broke out after a new inmate identified as Vinayak Korbatkar who was accused of murdering another prisoner was shifted from the central jail Colvale to the Sada Sub jail. The Sada Sub jail has to now go through a complete repair.
