3 soldiers dead as army helicopter crashes in West Bengal

Three soldiers have reportedly died and a junior commissioned officer (JCO) was injured after army’s Cheetah chopper crashed in the  Sukna village of West Bengal. The injured JCO who is in a critical condition has been rushed to a nearby hospital.

The incident took place at about 10:30am. An enquiry has been ordered into the entire incident. However, the cause of the chopper crash has not yet been ascertained. Initial reports suggest that mechanical failure could be the possible cause of the crash. The army and police officials reached the accident site just after the incident took place. The accident site was located inside the Sukna military base, near a helipad.

The army announced that two choppers went for forward area survey, where one landed safely but the other chopper crashed while returning back.

More details awaited.

The unfortunate incident took place just a day after two army officers and five jawans were killed in a brutal terror attack in the Nagrota town of Jammu and Kashmir.
