Vivegam Box Office Opening Weekend: Thala Ajith's film inching close to Rs 100 crore in India

Vivegam Box Office: Thala Ajith's film smashes records across the globe in its opening weekend and might emerge the biggest hit of 2017 after Baahubali 2

Ajith’s espionage thriller, Vivegam has set the South-Indian Box Office on fire as the film raked in approximately Rs 87 crore in its four-day extended opening weekend. The film opened with a bang at the Box Office as it raked in Rs 25.83 crore on its opening day thereby becoming Thala Ajith’s biggest opener till date.

The movie has fared in all the markets down South except Kerala, where the audience did not welcome the thriller. Vivegam was received with negative critic reviews, however, the audience reaction seems to be on the positive side. The collections did drop on Sunday, however that’s how the South Indian market functions wherein the opening three days are front loaded following which the business dips. More often than not, the first day often ends up being the biggest one for any film starring a superstar.

Box Office Collection:

  • Thursday: Rs 25.83 crore
  • Friday: Rs 22.17 crore
  • Saturday: Rs 24 crore
  • Sunday: Rs 15 crore
  • Total: Rs 87 crore

Also starring Vivek Oberoi and Kajal Agarwal, Vivegam has become the first ever Tamil film to rake in over Rs 1 crore in Chennai for four consecutive days. Given the performance so far, Vivegam has the chance to become the second biggest hit of the year after Baahubali, however, the hold in collections on Monday would decide the fate of the film.

Chennai Collections:

  • Thursday: Rs 1.21 crore
  • Friday: Rs 1.51 crore
  • Saturday: Rs 1.52 crore
  • Sunday: Rs 1.43 crore
  • Total: Rs 5.67 crore

Thala Ajith’s star-power has helped the film set several records down South (other than those of Rajnikanth and Baahubali), however, the audience’s acceptance from here on will give us a clearer idea about the lifetime collections of the film.

The Siva directorial has fared well outside India too. The four days overseas gross collection of the film stands at Rs 35.90 crore. The film was sold of astronomical rates and given the weekend collections, it seems that the distributors would make some amount of from from this Ajith film.
