Sonika Chauhan accident: Friend Vikram Chatterjee charged with culpable homicide, not amounting to murder

Sonika Chauhan passed away on 29 April after a car in which she was along with her friend Vikram Chatterjee rammed into a divider

Vikram Singh, the Bengali actor, who was in car with colleague Sonika Chauhan on 29 April has been charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder. Reports have it that the actor has been slapped with sections 304 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The actor denied driving the car under the influence of alcohol but later it was revealed that he was drunk. On the fateful day, Vikram’s car hit the divider and climbed the pavement on Rashbehari Avenue.

The car was completely wrecked. When Vikram and Sonika were rushed to the hospital, the latter was pronounced dead. Vikram has suffered major injuries but was discharged from the hospital days later.

A report in Times Now said that Vikram lied about his condition of being sober. He had also said the car was not overspeeding. But the news channel claimed their investigation found loopholes in the story. They also claimed that Vikram went pub-hopping before he took the wheels of the car.

Vikram Chatterjee had come under the scanner of many after the accident. Sonika’s family was extremely upset with the actor. So much so, that there were reports that Sonika’s family wanted Vikram to stop visiting her grave.  The actress’ parents requested the Christian Burial Board to restrain the actor from visiting her grave. However, this is an unusual demand made by her family members. The board explained that it is really not possible to control Vikram Chatterjee from visiting or entering a cemetery until or unless they have a court order.

Sonika Chauhan, a popular face of Kolkata and Mumbai modelling circuits, had also hosted a prime time show on a national channel. Vikram, whose last film Khoj (The Lost) had been screened in several film festivals, had also acted in ElarChar Adhyay and Ami Ar Amar Girlfriends.
