Jab Harry Met Sejal has had a decent opening at the Box Office in India with the multiplexes recording a good occupancy and single screens staying on the lower side. In terms of occupancy, the Shah Rukh Khan – Anushka Sharma film has obtained the fourth best opening of the year after Baahubali 2, Raees and Tubelight.
Tubelight released on 4400 screens and recorded an occupancy of 37% in the morning shows on its opening day. On the flip side, Jab Harry Met Sejal has released on around 3300 screens and the occupancy in the morning show is at par with Tubelight. The occupancy level being the same for both the films, Tubelight gets brownie points as the ticket sales for Tubelight were higher for than Jab Harry Met Sejal due to its wider release.
While many trade analysts expected the film to collect over Rs 20 crore on the opening day, the chances look bleak as yet since the occupancy level so far is below that of Tubelight, which just about managed to breach past the Rs 20 crore mark. Jab Harry Met Sejal needs to record a good jump in collections in the evening and night shows in order to make up for the lost ground, but with reviews coming in being generally negative, it’s highly unlikely.
The pan India distribution rights of Jab Harry Met Sejal have been sold for Rs 70 crore (Approx) and the film would be termed a hit at collections above Rs 150 crore in India. While the critic reviews as of now are on the negative side, the jump in collections over the weekend and the film’s hold on Monday would give a better idea about the word of mouth promotion.
Given the occupancy in morning shows, the film is looking to earn around Rs 16 to 17 crore on its opening day, however a lot depends on whether there would be a jump in collections in the evening shows.
