With them looking forward to the coming days, it also marks the 17th anniversary of popular Bollywood movies. The millennium year offered a lot to cine buffs with movies spanned over a plethora of genres. Mohabbatein

This Shah Rukh Khan starrer went on to become one of the most loved Bollywood romantic movies of all times. Directed By Aditya Chopra, Mohabbatein boasted of a stellar cast including Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

Dhadkan

Helmed by Dharmesh Darshan and featuring Akshay Kumar, Shilpa Shetty and Suniel Shetty in pivotal roles, Dhadkan was received by viewers with open arms. The movie told the story of a how a girl got married to an unknown man and eventually fell in love with him.

Kaho Naa…Pyar Hai

The year 2000 marked the grand debut of Bollywood star Hrithik Roshan with actress Ameesha Patel. The romantic flick directed by Rakesh Roshan went on to become one of the biggest hits of that year. It was also when Hrithik became the crush of many girls across the nation.

Hera Pheri

Over the years, Hera Pheri has become Bollywood’s cult comedy classic. The camaraderie between Paresh Rawal, Akshay Kumar and Suniel Shetty in this Priyadarshan directorial had the capacity to leave cine lovers in splits even today.

Josh

Mansoor Khan took roadside gang wars to another level by directing this project. He also pulled off something which usually filmmakers wouldn’t think of by casting Shah Rukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai as siblings.

Mission Kashmir

Mission Kashmir was Hrithik’s second release in his debut year but didn’t rake profits like the first one. It seemed cine lovers found it really hard to see him in the role of a man seeking revenge.

Refugee

Not only Hrithik Roshan, the millennium year marked the debut of star kids Kareena Kapoor and Abhishek Bachchan. This JP Dutta directorial was a dud at Box Office but is still remembered.

Chal Mere Bhai

Close friends Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt came together for this comedy movie directed by David Dhawan. It also featured Karisma Kapoor and is still considered as one of the best movies the two friends worked in.

Pukar

Boasting of a stellar cast including Anil Kapoor, Madhuri Dixit and Namrata Shirodkar, Pukar was a thriller movie about an honest officer trying to save lives of many from a dreaded terrorist organisation.

Mela

Mela was marketed with a lot of diligence and hopes were high from it. Yet it became a Box Office failure. Aamir Khan launched his brother Faisal in Bollywood through this movie, but his plans went south. This was also the movie that ended Twinkle Khanna’s not-so-illustrious acting career.

Kya Kehna

Kya Kehna touched the topic of teenage pregnancy with Preity Zinta in the lead and Saif Ali Khan as the guy who was naive enough to run from responsibilities. Courtesy of this movie, conversations like pregnancy made to the Indian’s family dinner tables.

Kahin Pyaar Naa Ho Jaaye

This romantic movie was basically one ion which Salman Khan failed to get the girl repeatedly. A series of heartbreaks which he had in this movie came to a halt when Rani Mukerji realized she was in love with him, in the climax, of course.

Hey Ram

Starring Shah Rukh Khan and Kamal Hassan, this crime thriller movie had centre of its semi-fictional plot in India’s partition and assassination of  Mahatma Gandhi. The movie was selected as India’s entry for the Oscars.

Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani

In the last decade of 20th century, the on screen couple of Juhi Chawla and Shah Rukh Khan was loved by all. They starred in this movie in which their motive was to get justice for a man whose daughter was raped by a politician.

Kurukshetra

An honest cop ACP Prithviraj played by Sanjay Dutt got into trouble when he arrested the Chief Minister’s son for assaulting a minor in this movie. The movie appealed to the masses and was successful.

Bulandi

Featuring Anil Kapoor, Rekha and Raveena Tandon in important roles, this movie brought to light Panchayati Raj. It traced how the family fell apart and bounced back when false allegations were leveled on the younger brother of the village head.

Hadh Kar Di Aapne

The movie had Govinda and Rani Mukerji as the lead couple where the two fall in love by chance. This movie also saw Govinda in more than 10 characters.
