Director Dinesh Vijan, who earlier worked with Deepika Padukone in films like Cocktail, Love Aaj Kal and Finding Fanny, is now considering her for the sequel to Varun Dhawan starrer Badlapur. Released in 2015, the film was a revenge drama that featured Varun in the main lead. But if rumours are to be believed then producer Dinesh Vijan is planning a sequel to the Sriram Raghavan-directed film, but with all new casts.
According to reports, it’s not Varun Dhawan but Deepika Padukone who is being considered for the role of the protagonist. Dinesh has pitched the idea to the Bajirao Mastani actress. The script of the film is in the process, and therefore, the makers are hoping to start the second installment of the film in the second half of 2018. It is also being said that like its prequel, Badlapur 2 will also be a content-driven film.
Reports suggest that Deepika Padukone has always been Dinesh Vijan first choice for his films, so he considered her to play the main lead. Even in his next film Raabta, he roped in Deepika for a special dance number. The film features Sushant Singh Rajput and Kriti Sanon in the lead roles.
Badlapur featured Varun Dhawan in an intense avatar who went on a killing spree seeking revenge for the death of his loved ones. The film featured Yami Gautam in the role of Varun’s wife.
Deepika will next be seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali upcoming period drama Padmavati. Starring in the role of Rani Padmavati, the film will also see Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor. This is not the first time she will be working for Bhansali. Earlier, the duo worked together for films like Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela and Bajirao Mastani.
