If there is an award for making cringe-worthy statements, Shahid Kapoor proves that no one other than him can lay claim on it. During IIFA 2017, Shahid was asked what was the naughtiest thing he has done. The actor responded saying “At the age of 18, I had no idea that I will be married to a girl who was five years old when I was 18. I guess that’s the naughtiest thing I have done.”
Someone pulled out a newspaper clip of the interview, pointing out everything that was inappropriate about it, which was literally EVERYTHING:

We all know Shahid Kapoor was 35 when he married 21-year-old, Mira Rajput. While we don’t have an issue with their age difference, it seems like Shahid obsesses over the fact that he has married someone 14 years younger to him, way too much.

After the marriage, Shahid gave a series of interviews detailing how Mira wants him to be a better person. In one of his first post-marriage interviews, Shahid said:
It’s a new beginning. Everything changes after marriage. You become a man. You feel responsible…They always say, “Be with someone who helps you become a better person.” She makes me want to be a better person…”

We don’t know if Mira approves of these statements or not, Twitter clearly has a problem with Shahid’s strange obsession of reminding people of him and his wife’s age-gap.
