Meri Pyaari Bindu and beyond, why Kausar Munir is one of Bollywood's most-gifted lyricists

Composed by Sachin-Jigar, Maana Ki Hum Yaar Nahin from Parineeti Chopra's Meri Pyaari Bindu is a perfect Bollywood romantic track

Parineeti Chopra has come out with her debut song — Maana Ki Hum Yaar Nahin, from her upcoming film Meri Pyaari Bindu which has her playing an aspiring singer opposite Ayushmann Khuranna. The song has a beautiful setting and of course a gorgeous Parineeti roaming with a cup of tea (or is that coffee?) at her place. Composed by Sachin-Jigar, Maana Ki Hum Yaar Nahin is like that perfect romantic song which tries to bring a lot of serenity to your life and gives you an escape from the hustle-bustle around. What is most special about this song is its lyrics.

Kausar Munir, a woman who has been doing some incredible work with her writing in Bollywood has penned down the lyrics of Maana Ki Hum Yaar Nahin. When you hear a romantic number, what hits you first are its lyrics. That’s where you get to feel more attached to the song. With this particular song too, it seems like Kausar’s words are weaving magic with the music to present a song which Bollywood probably lacked to offer for long now. Just sample this:

Raaste me jo milo toh, haath milane ruk jana
Sath me koi ho tumhare, dur se hi tum muskana
Lekin muskan ho aisi ki jisme ikrar nahi…

While this might be Kausar’s yet another addition to a beautiful Bollywood song in her kitty, her previous works too speak volumes of her talent. The woman is writing for films and television shows since 2003 with her first break being the ever-so-popular TV show — Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin. Kausar, who belongs to the family of writers has analysed the word of Urdu poetry closely. Despite living in Mumbai for most of her life, she says she feels in love with languages and varied culture in India. And that reflects in her noon-filmy works too. Her collections of poems — Yeh Kavita Abhi Shuru Nahin Huyee, and It Takes Two find a concoction of multiple Indian languages in them.
